What Are the Important Components of Early Childhood Development?

Emotional
Development

From birth children start to develop emotional connections with others, which build healthy relationships that foster empathy, cooperation, and confidence.

Social
Development

Social development is essential for school readiness and learning how to model appropriate behavior, and can actually impact many of the other forms of development children experience.

Cognitive
Development

Cognitive development in young children is rapid and exponential in the areas of information processing, conceptual resources, perceptual skill and language learning.

My Story

Hi! I’m Joanne!

As a Pediatric Occupational Therapist who specializes in working with infants, toddlers, kids in the early childhood years, and their families, using toys that supports development are a staple in my therapy practice. I would devote many hours analyzing toys I find online or in a store to see how they can aide in growing anyone of my kiddos functional skills. Being an Occupational Therapist (OT) was the best job ever, or at least I thought, until I added a new job title to my life.….I became a Mom! And now instead of being a guest in the lives of families, I now have a family of my own. Watching development happen in front of my eyes, 24/7. Being an OT MOM inspired me to start Smile A While developmental toys. Toys that are intentionally designed for parent-child cooperative engagement and age-based skills. I can now share with the world toys that I put my own touch on, using my specialized training and skill for understanding child development. I hope your family finds as much joy as mine does with these toys.
